High and low points

October 27, 2022

This phrase may only be four words, but it can start conversations that are filled with thousands of words. This is what Elizabeth asked her kids each day, and it is still being used by them all now. Each day, once your kiddos have piled in the car, you finally sit down with your sweet family, or during your evening phone call with your sister or mom, ask them this!

“What was the high point or best part of your day?”

“What was the low point or worst part of your day?”

It makes people think back about the events of their day and allows you to gain insight into the things they faced, as well as the things they enjoyed.

On a family trip to Utah, we played this game daily with 16 people! It was on this trip that Gabe, the youngest GBM child, coined the new term, “unexpected point”. During many car rides home from school over the years, Anna Catherine’s children began incorporating “medium point” as one of the categories. It really can go on and on!

Being that we are a family of food lovers running a food company, it is no surprise that many of the answers to this game revolve around food. Lily, the youngest of Anna Catherine’s children, bounces her high point between “leaving school”, and “eating a snack in the car”, every day.

A favorite from the 16 person vacation group was the day that some unexpected changes meant we skipped lunch. Of the 16 people in the room, about 80% of them said their most unexpected and low point was that we had to go without food, skip lunch, and hike without snacks. You can see why frozen meal prep is prevalent for Elizabeth’s survival. I think there’s a good deal of us who reside with a mob of extremely hungry people...

The next time you find yourself in a hectic car ride home, or a quiet dinner with your spouse, break these with this simple question what was your high and low point?
