Notecard Game

September 30, 2022

We began playing this game when the Mama’s youngest kids were too little to be a part of higher-level games, but it was so fun for all ages, we haven’t stopped playing it yet! Because it doesn’t require a board or game pieces, it can be played anywhere and doesn’t take up space in your suitcase. All you need are notecards and writing utensils. You must be warned though, it will quickly indicate which family member has the worst handwriting and the least artistic ability and, better yet, the most creativity! Check out the details for playing below.

PLAYERS

6-15 (or more)

SETTING UP

  • Begin by giving each player a pile of blank notecards that is equal to the number of people playing and a pen. (Example: for a group of 10, each player gets 10 notecards.)
  • Number each pile of cards 1 through the total number of players

PLAYING THE GAME

  • Each player begins by writing a random sentence, phrase, or thought on Notecard #1.
  • Once finished, everyone passes their entire pile to the right.

  •  The next person reads the sentence on the first notecard of the pile that was just passed to them by their neighbor and draws a depiction of it onto Notecard #2.
  • That player moves Notecard #1 (with words on it) to the back of the pile.
  • ***NOTE: Players cannot use words in their pictures, only images and visual depictions***
  • Everyone passes their pile to the right again. Notecard #1 should not be visible for the player to see. They should only see the picture on Notecard #2.

  • Everyone passes their pile to the right again. Notecard #1 should not be visible for the player to see. They should only see the picture on Notecard #2.

  • That player then proceeds to write a sentence on Notecard #3 that describes the picture from Notecard #2
  • Notecards #2 should then be moved to the back of the pile so that only Notecard #3 is visible.

  • That player then proceeds to write a sentence on Notecard #3 that describes the picture from Notecard #2
  • Notecards #2 should then be moved to the back of the pile so that only Notecard #3 is visible.

  • The entire pile is passed to the right and the game continues, rotating from sentence to picture as described above.
  • Once your original pile has circled around and is back in your hands, players can take turns reading their sentences and showing their images to the group.

How it started is not how it will end, and the middle is typically full of laughs!
