A Baby's Arrival
In a small business owned and run by a close-knit family, one of the owners having a baby is a big deal for the entire company, but especially the founding team. Such a big event most certainly needs to be on the calendar. Unfortunately for the calendar, babies don’t often work that way! The same was true in Good Batch Mama’s anticipation for Anna Catherine’s new baby.
Adam told baby it would be in bad taste to show up on a Friday, as he manages the delightfully chaotic delivery of all your meals. He knew Elizabeth would most assuredly get off track and head to the hospital with your delivery bags in tow. With Anna out of the kitchen and Elizabeth doing the work of two in the back, Elizabeth knew timing was everything! A Thursday afternoon, perhaps, once all the meals are tucked away nicely and ready for your homes. After enjoying her “last day” 4 times, Anna Catherine finally called it quits in the kitchen at 39 weeks and six days pregnant. When her due date, Saturday, February 3, rolled around, Anna Catherine nicely asked Rosie to stay put. The older kids needed shoes for spring sports, and the winter formal was that evening. And like a good little girl, she did! February 3 came and went without a baby.
Anna Catherine couldn’t help but smile when she woke up early Sunday morning to a sure sign of a baby on the way. It wasn’t on a delivery day, prep day, or during a catered event. Baby girl was making her grand appearance in a way that perfectly suited Good Batch Mama’s schedule- which was perfectly appropriate for Anna Catherine, who believes that the key to all joy is the kitchen schedule.
While Anna grabbed some breakfast and switched over the towels in the laundry (priorities, we know), her husband went downstairs to wake her sisters and tell them the baby girl was on the way. “Just like her mom would have it, bright and early!”. They made the greatly anticipated journey to the hospital while the sun rose peacefully on the horizon. And, although she knew it might take all day, Elizabeth was headed there just the same- not without a stop in at Starbucks, of course. The nurses watched as the waiting room filled with one face after another. There were lots of snacks and naps to be had as Sunday morning wore into Sunday afternoon, and everyone waited for the news.
Things started off slow but ended up a bit of a flurry- Rosie Wei was facing the wrong way! But, with a little of this and a little of that, she entered the world just fine. At 3:44 pm, Baby Girl took her first little breath in this big wide world and quickly found the arms of her parents and three sisters. When they finally opened the hospital room door, the room filled with all her grandparents, aunts, and uncles. Everyone talked and told stories as they passed Rosie around. There was no shortage of people, jokes, noise, reports, or love. She quickly discovered what being a part of the GBM family meant!
We are so excited to welcome her into our world. Thank you, guys, for following along on this exciting journey!
