French Toast

Prep Time: 10 minutes    Total Time: 30 minutes    Servings: 4-6

Ingredients

  • 6 leftover Dinner Rolls, halved like burger buns (12 pieces)
  • 1 C. of Milk
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 tsp. Vanilla
  • 2 tsp. Cinnamon, used separately
  • 3/4 C. of White Sugar
  • 4 Tbsp. Butter
  • Optional: Powdered Sugar

Instructions

1. In one bowl, mix milk, egg, vanilla, and 1 tsp. of cinnamon, and set aside.
2. In another bowl, mix 1 tsp. of cinnamon and all of the white sugar and set aside.
3. Dunk your rolls into the milk mixture and allow them to soak for 5 seconds. If your leftover rolls are in a dish, pour the mixture evenly over all the rolls and flip them around until each side is soaked in milk.
4. Roll each piece in the white sugar mixture until all sides are coated in cinnamon sugar.
5. Heat a medium to large non-stick skillet over medium heat and add all the butter. If the French toast will not fit in one round, split the butter or use additional Tbsp.
6. Once the butter is hot and bubbling but not brown, lay the French toast pieces in the skillet. Ensure your skillet is not too hot before adding bread.
7. Allow them to cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side, then remove each one from the skillet. While the bread is hot, the browned sides will seem soft and chewy; however, as the toast cools, a caramelized cinnamon sugar coating with form outside the soft French toast center.
8. Top with sifted powdered sugar and fresh fruit, if desired.
