OVEN STEAMED RICE

Rice is a versatile option for a variety of dinner menus. Whether it's Taco Tuesday, teriyaki chicken bowls, or grilled salmon with rice, rice is a fantastic alternative when you’ve run out of ideas for preparing potatoes. If you have a rice cooker, you're already set! But if you don’t, this article is for you.

While you can cook rice on the stovetop, there is an easier, neater method to consider.

Let’s get straight to the point: you can make rice in the oven! Here is how:

To cook your rice, start by selecting an appropriate oven dish. You will need to cover it tightly with aluminum foil or an oven-safe lid.

Next, scoop the rice into the bottom of the pan. While you can use various types of rice, traditional, high-quality rice brands typically yield the best results. Avoid cheaper, stickier rice, as it often does not cook well, regardless of preparation. Generally, dry rice expands to 3-4 times its original volume, but some packages provide serving suggestions for precise measurements.

Add your desired seasonings, such as herbs, chili powder, garlic, salt, and pepper, to enhance the flavor.

Add your desired seasonings, such as herbs, chili powder, garlic, salt, and pepper, to enhance the flavor.

Next, you add double the amount of water as dry rice. If you use 1 cup of rice, you'll need 2 cups of water. Chicken broth can also be used for extra flavor.

Once everything is combined, tightly cover the pan. Be careful to seal it well, as any vents or holes will allow steam to escape.

Bake in the oven at 350°F until all the moisture has evaporated and the rice can be easily fluffed with a fork. This usually takes about 35-45 minutes, but if you are cooking a smaller quantity, it may take less time.
